Anyways, I was thinking of maybe adding a donate button on the site. For donating you can get extra things like concept sketches or high res Para-Ten wallpapers and illustrations, etc. I wonder how many of you would be into that?
I say do it. It is pretty easy to set up a pay pal account, and to put a little button on your site. It really couldn’t hurt. I would donate if I wasn’t so ungodly poor all the time, but with offering something like high res stuff you would definitely draw more attention to it. And really, if you put a donate button on the side of your website, the worst that could happen would be not getting donations. I have never heard of anyone getting up into arms just because someone had a “donate if you want to” button on their site. ( I might also suggest setting up a forum for para – ten eventually. I would love to have conversations with fans about the comic without taking up all your comic comment space.)
And on the subject of your comic, the only thing to say is “Guess what?! I got a fever! and the only prescription, is more cowbell!” ^.^
Yeah I already have a paypal account, I’m just trying to figureout the button thing. It’s easy enoguh with the default button but for some reason it wont load the custom one i made!
Also about the forum, I’m hoping to get one set up eventually I just don’t know what the best way to do that is.

Don’t worry I’ve been in that position! That’s one of many reasons I would rather put a donate button and have this up for free rather than pay.

I’d say it’s a good idea as well. Like many others, I don’t know if I’d be able to donate, but it’s worth a shot anyway. I’d certainly try to give a couple bucks!

I would say don’t do it…. I would suggest a different plan. Offer things for sale in a shop (like prints, tee-shirts, cute things, etc.) and then have a “VOTE” button and offer wallpapers, sketches, and other incentives there. Try to get listed on different webcomic charts and then as your viewers increase, your sales from the store will too. That will pull in more revenue and a higher reader volume – which is always important…. right?
I guess that’s true, I guess I just feel silly participating in a vote thing, and I’m not sure I have the ability to set up a shop. I’ll have to look into the logistics.

I mean no offense to you Vero, but I don’t think the voting system works very well. I read a lot of web comics, but I never found any good comics on a top 100 web comic site or what have you. The fundamental flaw of a voting system like that is that anyone can get into the ballot to get voted for. When there are like a billion web comics to look through, even a really really good web comic like this one just gets lost in all the mindless crappy ones. Also (no offense to you this time Ashwara) I don’t think this web comic has enough of a fan base yet to get it up to a high level on the voting sites.
I do agree that a store might be a good thing though. Shirts, posters and stuff are a great way to earn an income. I guess the problem is that I dunno what sorta shirts you would make for this comic, but that is a problem for a later date. I would probably make a forum before making a shop, then you can get a good opinion on what sort of shirt or poster or print designs your fans would like to see.
A last piece of advice I will give is maybe, instead of putting a vote button on your website, make some guest comics for other websites. Try sending guest comics to the big name comics (like Penny Arcade, or Ctrl Alt Del) and just get your name out there. A mention from someone like Gabe and Tycho, or Tim, or whoever could increase your fan base to epic proportions. Though I might suggest doing this soon, because when you get up into the triple digits of comics new comers might be a little overwhelmed to read that many to catch up and be turned off of it.
Yeah I was thinking that too. I haven’t been going very long and I’m not very well known. it’s funny that voting would be to gain fans, but I don’t have enough for it to even be possible! i think it would just flounder and sink.
I have asked myself that question before: what kind of shirts would I sell for a comic like this? ha ha. But posters and other things could probably be good, maybe mini comics and one day issues/volumes. but you’re right: a forum should take priority over the shop for now.
That’s a good idea about the guest comics. Though, I think something like Penny Arcade is way out of my league, and they don’t do guest strips very often (and I’m not a huge fan of CTRL-ALT-DELETE. I love PA though). Perhaps other comics. Maybe one for the Abominable Charles Christopher! Ha ha.
